Transformers :ROTF Video Game Nominations

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Video Game has been nominated in two categories for Spike TV's Video Game Awards for 2009. One is for "Best Performance by a Human Female" for Megan Fox and "Best Performance by a Human Male" for Shia LaBeouf. It seems a lot of the nominations for these categories are less about superior voice work in video games (only "famous" people did good voice work?) but really so they can some stars for the awards program that will air live on Saturday, December 12 at 8:00PM on Spike TV.

The competition for Fox is Kristen Bell (Assassin's Creed 2), Eliza Dushku (Wet: Bethesda Wetworks), and Tricia Helfer (Halo 3: ODST). Shia is competing against Bill Murray (Ghostbusters), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Samuel L. Jackson (Afro Samurai), and Vin Diesel (The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena).

XBox 360 Elite Transformers Bundle Announced

According to Videogamer.com, a new XBox 360 bundles are being prepared for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
The Transformers bundle includes an Xbox 360 Elite plus Transformers 2 the movie on a Bumblebee-styled USB stick, a copy of Transformers 2 The Game and an additional black Wireless Controller.

There's no indication of pricing or if the Xbox 360 Elite features the standard 120GB hard drive or the larger 250GB variety.
As the images indicate, the bundle will be in Transformers specific packaging. Also, besides price, it is also unknown what regions the bundle will be released for or when but I assume in time for Christmas sales. (via TFormers)

ROTF The Game Concept Designs

Head over to The Bad Flip blog for a huge volume of concept artwork for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game. The blog is from Luxoflux's Ken Christiansen who was the character design artist on the game. He writes and posts images about the design work of many of the characters in the game including the Map & Character DLC pack that just came out. Posts cover design for G1 Starscream, movie Soundwave, the OmniBots, Stunicons, Aerialbots, and much more. It is interesting to read just how much thought that goes into many of these designs. From what I can tell the Transformers related posts go all the way back to January 2009 so there is a lot of material to look at so click here to get started. Thanks to Scorpio for the link.

Play Luxoflux Developers in ROTF Game

Considering the lack of any real information, it seems the chance to play Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game with Megan Fox fell flat. However, that hasn't stopped XBox Live from continuing this time for their "Game with Developers" program which will include more people and longer play time compared.

Ten Luxoflux developers who helped create the ROTF Game will be on XBox Live this Friday, September 4th from 5PM EST to 9PM EST for your buttkicking enjoyment. To participate you will need an XBox Live Gold account and the Map and Character Pack DLC that was released last week. The gamer tags to send invite to are LuxoDev01, LuxoDev02, etc all the way up to LuxoDev10. Good luck. (via TFormers)

Transformers 2 DLC Interview

The Character and Map Pack Plus pack for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game is official out and Superherohype has an interview with Luxoflux producer Ray Cobo about the the DLC. Thanks to Scorpio for the link.
Superhero Hype!: How many new maps will this downloadable "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" content include? How did you decide on these levels and what makes them unique?
Ray Cobo: The DLC pack will include three new multiplayer maps. The Courtyard is a Fast paced East Coast map that focuses on a heavily contested center action point. This key strategic area allows for views of the entire map as well as control of the high ground surrounding the middle courtyard and its perimeter. Flying characters are able to utilize the open skies and tall skyscrapers to quickly get to advantageous positions, but ground based characters can make use of numerous back alleys to flank around the sides of the map and attack from unprotected angles.

Another new map is called Hillside. It's a tiered map in a dense urban area of Cairo. There are varied height sections on the map that make for multiple small arenas of combat, while allowing sneaky players to move throughout the level virtually un-noticed under the cover of surrounding buildings. A central marketplace provides a high point to get views of almost the entire level, but the maze-like street layout and numerous buildings mean that you will have to hunt your enemies down in the alleys.

Lastly, we have Sandstorm. It's a very fast paced map that takes place in a smaller section of Cairo. It's mostly populated with low level buildings and an open central area, so combat on this map will be fast and frenetic, as there is almost no place to hide. Flying characters can hover above the buildings for clear views of almost the entire map, but this will also leave them wide-open to ground fire from almost any angle.

SHH!: How many new characters will appear in this DLC? How did you decide which characters would debut in the DLC? What specific skills or powers do they add to the game?
Cobo: The pack contains eight brand-new playable characters and three new character skins, most of which are usable in both the single-player campaign and multiplayer. Many of us at Luxoflux are huge fans of the original Transformers series, so we wanted to share that passion with the fans.

Play Transformers: ROTF with Megan Fox

As part of XBox Live's "Play with Fame" program, XBox Live Gold subscribers only have the chance to play Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with Megan Fox. To play you have to send a friend request to the Gamertag Megan Fox 2009 by 5:30pm EST on Saturday, August 29th. The Megan Fox session kicks off at 6:00PM. Consider it a lottery, many will enter, few will "win" and play with the lovely Transformers actress.

Speaking of Fox, the rumor that she has been cast as Catwoman in Batman 3 has been proven false. The response from her publicist: "Megan is a huge fan of the Batman movies and of director Christopher Nolan but these discussions have not taken place. Thank you for checking." A script is probably months away from even existing which makes it a bit hard to do any casting for characters that may not be in the movie by the time the various drafts are completed.

ROTF The Game DLC Trailer

Activision has released a new trailer for the DLC pack for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game that is coming out August 27th for the XBox 360 and PS3. It shows off many of the new characters joining the game especially G1 Optimus Prime, G1 Megatron and G1 Starscream. Of note to many fans is sounds like movie Soundwave gets his G1 vocoder voice for the game. The one question not answered is what is Megatron's alt mode? A flying gun? The full details of the DLC can be found here.

Two More for DLC for ROTF Game

Activision has released two more images to tease their upcoming downloadable content pack for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Video Game. One is G1 Optimus Prime in all his classic glory and the other is the movie version of Soundwave, apparently sporting a color scheme close to his Generation 1 counterpart. Considering Soundwave has an alt mode of a jet, I imagine his play will be nearly identical to Starscream. The DLC is supposed to come out in the next month or so for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3, cost not yet released.

New Content for ROTF The Game

Activision has announced that a downloadable expansion pack for Playstation 3 and XBox 360 version of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game will be released later this summer that will include 10 new characters, three new maps and a new difficulty mode. The price and exact date has not been released. Thanks to Lady Owl for the link.

The highlights:
- New characters include Generation 1 Starscream and Sideswipe.
- New characters are for multi and single player mode.
- "Expert" difficulty mode will have new leader boards
- New Achievements and Trophies will become available.

Transformers: ROTF The Game Reviews

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game is now available and reviews are popping up online. Checking out Metacritic, it appears the game is scoring pretty good overall with an average score of 70/100 for the XBox360 and 68/100 for the PS3. Below are samples from the above links.

PGNx Media (83/100)
Like the movie it’s based on, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen isn’t trying to radically change the genre or introduce innovative new features. It’s giving you great-looking robots that go off and fight other great-looking robots as you watch the resulting explosions.
Gamespot (75/100)
Though it isn't immediately accessible, Revenge of the Fallen has a good amount of fun and satisfying gameplay. The initial awkwardness of the controls is a bit vexing, and some issues linger no matter how good you get. The single-player missions and multiplayer game modes aren't very diverse, but the various bonus challenges and strategic nuances add some welcome depth. What Revenge of the Fallen does best is make it fun to be a Transformer by giving you a powerful set of abilities and open maps where you can put them to use. It's enjoyable and engaging, and it's probably the best Transformers product you'll see this summer.
1Up (C+, 58/100)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an apt representation of what you'd expect from a Transformers movie: a disposable, explosion-laden piece of mindless entertainment featuring robots beating the crap out of each other. And judging from the movie reviews, it actually sounds like this solid, if flawed, action game might turn out to be better than the movie.
IGN (60/100)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes up short in a number of categories, due in large part to its repetition, odd control layout, poor AI and almost total lack of presentation. Running around and just shooting stuff has its merits, though it does get old after a bit. At least the multiplayer offers up a pretty good time for when you tire of the short single-player game.
Also, Target currently has a promo on Transformers products both in store and online that does seem to work with the video games. When you buy any two Transformers products in the entire store you can save 10%, 15% on any three, and 20% on any four. For online, the promotional code to enter (depending on number bein purchased) is TF2STR02, TF2STR03, and TF2STR04. They all expire on July 11th. Thanks to Inuyasha for the info.

Transformers 2 The Game on Justin.TV

Update: The live play of the game is finished. From what I saw it was a multi-hour play through the entire game as the Autobots. Of note is the game seems to have levels that are just boss fights where you are fighting the enemy (say Devastator, Seekers, Grindor, etc) while fighting weaker minions at the same time and staying alive. Victories were often anti-climatic with a quick cut to the villian's death and then the level achievement screen. Sadly I got distracted and missed what turned out to be near the last level when play as Jetfire and the merge of Jetfire and Optimus against the fallen so no clue how the ending was.

Over at justin.tv someone is live-casting playing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game for the 360. I don't know how long its been up or how long the video will show the game. Click here to watch. Thanks to Jeff for the heads-up.

Two More Video Game Clips

The first clip shows some gameplay as Sideways with a brief look at his sniper ability and also shows off more of the Devastator level.
