The Wall Street Journal reporting that even though not even half of the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toy line is at retail, already Hasbro is expecting "merchandise sales topping the 2007 product lineup by as much as 25%" as a result "merchandise sales topping the 2007 product lineup by as much as 25%, analysts say."
As io9.com points out, the more than $600 million in ticket sales plus $600 million in toys sales plus probably same ballpark for DVD sales is going to result in boffo cash for Paramount/DreamWorks, Hasbro and Michael Bay thanks to the "incestuous relationship" between everyone. Paramount/DreamWorks has to pay a license free for Transformers (which probably includes portion of the profits) but in turn Hasbro has to pay them a portion of the toy profits.
In addition, Michael Bay has a profit sharing deal with Paramount that netted him an estimated $75 million on the first movie and has a deal with Hasbro for 8% of their profits. Before the dust settles it wouldn't surprise me if he clears $150 million off the movie. Considering the money involved, do you really think he would turn down doing Transformers 3? I don't.
